Our Story

Hollow on the Square Cape Town City Hotel was established in 2006 after the success of its sister property, Cape Town Hollow Boutique Hotel, which opened in 2003. The story dates back to the mid-1990s, when founder, Jack Brotherton, opened the doors of the first Hollow Hotel on the banks of the Sabie River in Hazyview – and so Hippo Hollow Country Estate was born.

After Hippo Hollow proved to be a great success, Jack went on to his next venture and opened Knysna Hollow in 1998 on the Garden Route. A few years later, Jack spread the Hollow Hotel brand and branched out into Cape Town, opening Cape Town Hollow and Hollow on the Square. The success of the Hollow Hotels did not end at Hollow on the Square Hotel. Perry’s Bridge Hollow in Hazyview soon followed and Casterbridge Hollow Hotel was opened in 2008. Casterbridge Hollow – the first “green” hotel in Mpumalanga – was built as part of the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre and is yet another great success in the Hollow Hotel family.

Hollow on the Square is a modern, inner city hotel that is centrally located and within walking distance of the V&A Waterfront and the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). As long as featuring affordable accommodation in Cape Town city centre, the hotel boasts a recently renovated on-site restaurant and bar that opens on to the historic Ryk Tulbagh Square.
